Collaboration Beer Fest 2017: The Beers

DENVER – The fourth annual Collaboration Beer Fest will take place on Saturday, March 25th from 4:00 p.m. –  7:00 p.m. at the National Western Stock Show Complex (4655 Humboldt St., Denver CO 80216). Each beer at this festival was created specifically for this event, meaning each beer has a unique story to its creation.

“This festival is, and will always be about the brewers and the beers they choose to create,” said Tobias Krause, event manager at Two Parts. “That is what sets Collaboration Fest apart from other festivals. Instead of asking breweries to bring a beer that’s one specific style, we let the brewers’ imaginations run wild, and highlight what it is they do best.”

The best way to start a beer festival is with a beer being handed to you immediately upon entering. This year’s welcome beer is the creation of the Colorado Brewers Guild (CBG) board. The board includes Brad Lincoln (Funkwerks Brewing Company), Brian O’Connell (Renegade Brewing Company), Chris Wright (Pikes Peak Brewing Company), Eric Wallace (Left Hand Brewing Company), Kim Jordan (New Belgium Brewing Company), Kristen Muraro (Ska Brewing Company), Matt Cutter (Upslope Brewing Company), Mike Bristol (Bristol Brewing Company), Tim Myers (Strange Brewing Company), Tony Simmons (Pagosa Springs Brewing and Grill), and Wynne Odell (Odell Brewing Company).

The CBG board wanted to create a beer that embodies the creative spirit of the Colorado craft beer industry. The result is an easy-drinking pale ale with hints of tropical fruit and citrus called Board’s in Session.

Board’s in Session is an all Colorado beer featuring local malt from Colorado Malting Company, Cascade and Crystal hops from High Wire Hops, and a yeast strain from Brewing Science Institute. This beer comes in at 4.5 percent alcohol by volume, and will open up attendee’s palates to the rest of the festival’s libations.

“Collaboration Fest has this buzz of excitement and nervousness,” said Steve Kurowski, director of operations at the Colorado Brewers Guild. “You are not sure what to expect from these beers, but no matter what you will be surprised at the creativity and passion poured into them.”

This year Collaboration Beer Fest will have 112 unique collaborations from 188 breweries. A full list of collaborations and beer descriptions can be found online at http://www.collaborationfest.com/beers. .
